- The NU21 is a new addition of NITECORE’s NU Series with extreme simplicity design. Upgraded on the output, light beam, charging port and operation, it weighs only 44g (1.55 oz), providing a lighter and better experience for users.
- Utilizing a unibody optical lens system with a light transmission of over 94% and high performance LEDs, the NU21 delivers 360 lumens of blazing white light. It is specially designed for reflecting a uniform and soft light ideal for night running and route finding.
- The NU21 uses an ultra lightweight headband, featuring reflective and glow-in-the-dark performance for alerting pedestrians and vehicles, guarding your safety at night. The red light is ideal for map viewing, emergency response, stargazing, and more.
- With a built-in 500mAh Li-ion battery, the NU21 is available with USB-C input and cycle charging, which can reduce the discard of 700+ AAA batteries over a battery life cycle. Apart from the Lockout Mode to prevent accidental activation, it is one-hand operable to control the beam and show the remaining battery power.

I have many Headlights & this one so far is ranking right up there with the rest.
Adam Hobbs –
Best quality, enough light power, battery life, waterproof and reasonable price for brand.

I own a few other Nitecore products so I decided to try this headlamp. When you need your hands free, a headlamp can be extremely nice. I use mine when I work on my cars, camping and when I need a direct light for up close work. The elastic strap is fully adjustable to fit your head and it even fit around a baseball cap. Although fully plastic and very light, it feels solid and not brittle. The light quality is nice with your usual accompaniment of high, low and red lights with a few pushes of a rubberized button. I greatly appreciate the ease and ability to quickly charge the headlamp with a USB-C charger. No more AAA batteries!

Cheap materials, but otherwise good

This is a great staple for ay wildcamping enthusiast or beginner alike. It’s lightweight, the battery lasts for hours, and it has a red light mode to not disturb the wildlife. It’s comfortable on the head, with and without a hat on.

Bought for hubby for hands free lighting and he loves it. Bright enough to even work on vehicles in the dark.

I previously had a Nitecore HA20 2x AA headlamp that I used regularly from 2016 to today, with a warranty service in 2018. After 6 years of semi-regular service, the battery cover broke and I was in search of a replacement. Initially considered the Nitecore HA11 with single AA battery, but wanted to try the latest and greatest and went down the rabbit hole. There is the new NU25 UL, but wanted a smaller profile.
Purchased this and put it through it’s paces and so far am impressed with the features provided with a few caveats.
The body size is small and it is very lightweight.
I like the elastic cord material, but the material is rather long. The elastic glows in the dark with a quick recharge, which is a nice touch; but I don’t plan to use this feature.
I decided to shorten the elastic cord and make it a single strap along the back of the head with some supplies and it sits just as reliable as with the doubled cord setup.
I did not use the included Type-C cable, but I was able to use the various Type-C cables I have and they all worked to charge up the unit.
I have only used the unit in high and medium mode, and I seem to be getting slightly more than the estimated runtime, but will have to see how long this will be long term. I plan to try out the low and ultra-low mode if they run as expected.
I briefly tested the red light mode and expect this to work as well as my other headlamps.
I am annoyed that the ultra-low mode is an extra step, and wish this mode would have just been part of the cycle of Low, Medium, High modes.
One final niggle I have with the NU21 is the hollowness feel and sound of the plastic.
My HA20 was a beast and felt solid, but was a heavy monster of a light.
I take pretty good care of my gear, and don’t expect to drop this nor expose it to torrential rain, but the body just doesn’t have that solid feel I expected.
I’ve only held a NU25 (older version) once for a few seconds years ago, but the NU25 felt almost as solid as the HA20 I had.
I expect to use and carry this as part of my EDC and outdoor activities, and hope to get as many years as my HA20.
Overall, I’d say I’m happy with the NU21, (after a bit of modification of course) 😉

Work like a charm I’ve had it and used it for 4 weeks now and it’s still had its original charge from the factory. Very easy to stow away and find. Yellow love it.

Perfect for walking the dogs in the evening. I especially. like the red blinking light to let drivers know I’m around.
