I teach wilderness skills in the Poconos, and I’m out solo a lot as well. I just shared a sale on these to a “Wilderness & Hiking Skills for All” group I manage online, for good reason. Here’s part of what I wrote there:
These are the headlamps I use – relatively inexpensive even without being on sale, reliable, as bright as a car’s high beams, comfortable and don’t fall easily, lightweight, with different modes. I sometimes tuck them into the belt of my waist pack to keep the light below my eyes and save night vision, changing to the red beam for that on occasion even though I’m not really a fan of red light. They work fine then as well, and the headstrap rigs well to secure them.
They last a long time – more than a year, and apparently until I lose them or give them away, and they hold a charge well. Carrying two, with a little battery pack to recharge the one not in use, will last all night even on the brightest setting and near the solstice’s longest nights.

Pros: Great value, very bright, good build quality, I snorkeled with these for several minutes and have good water resistance, IR reflects eyeballs far off at night, fast recharges in about an hour.
Cons: Short battery life; evening use on 1/2 bright setting, and have to recharge near daily or every other day. Of course I love using the IR setting that I suspect eats the battery charge.
Needs lower brightness setting. If the low bright settings for spot and flood is 50%, then 25% would be plenty useful while putting the recharge cycle >3 days (like for weekend primitive camping).

These headlamps are better than I expected for the price but there are some issues. My biggest complaint is it doesn’t remember the last mode used so you have to cycle through again to get to what you want. It always turns on with the bright spot light but I often want the wide “flood” light. I, and I suspect nearly everyone, has zero use for the red modes. The dim flood mode is also not very useful except perhaps as a night light in a tent to conserve battery life.
At least you can just hold the power button for a few seconds to directly turn it off without having to click through the rest of the modes like many Chinese lights. The left hand button only enables the motion detection mode.
The nice thing about headlamps that run on AAA batteries is you can just take a spare set of batteries in your day pack, or overnight backpack, and you have much longer run time. With a rechargeable light, like this one, you have to bring a USB power bank to charge it and you also have to wait for it to charge.
Imagine being on a day hike, you injure your ankle and have to slowly limp out, but it gets dark before you’re back to the trailhead. What do you do if the rechargeable battery dies? If you’re just going to use it around home or for walking the dog when it’s dark out the rechargeable battery is great. But for more serious outdoor use I’d suggest a headlamp with AAA replaceable batteries and bringing a spare set.
Otherwise the main beam is surprisingly bright and the dim main beam is still usable. This light is brighter than a forty dollar several year old name brand Petzl. The bright flood light is also nicely usable and much nicer for say walking the dog and would work well at a campsite.
The angle adjustment is fairly coarse with just 3 settings total but good enough for most uses. Name brand lights have a finer adjustment. If you wear glasses there’s annoying “light bleed” down into the glasses unless the headlamp is pointed straight ahead. The headband is soft and comfortable but the forehead pad isn’t especially non-slip.
The motion detection feature mostly works but is prone to some weird behavior. I’m not sure it’s all that useful unless you’re using it to say light up the inside of a tent hanging the light over head. Then when you’re in the tent iot will turn but automatically turn off when you’re not. There’s a green LED on the front to let you know it’s “sleeping” in motion detect mode.
At this price they’re basically disposable but it will be interesting to see how long they last and how well the battery holds up. As long as they don’t fail in a few month, or catch fire like some Chinese Li-Ion products, I’m satisfied for the price.

Used these for a canoe trip. My husband wore his facing back using the red light, and I wore mine forward using the brighter light options. Made us feel seen and safe on the water where there were other fast moving motor boats. The sensor feature also worked well. Used for a few hours each day over the course of three days and didn’t need to recharge. Headband was comfortable and adjustable. Also liked how the light could pivot down…articulating at a few stopping points. Buttons were easy to press with light mittens on. Highly recommend!

I was skeptical when I ordered these, but we were extremely pleased! Great features – can be dimmed / turned off either with your hand motion – or the normal button, you choose.
No batteries !!! Recharge like your phone – the small cord included. I was really impressed !
And BF and I both got one ! Yay !

I LIKE THESE A LOT. I like the solid red lamp for lighting the tent at night without irritating tent mates, and I like the array of choices of lighting as well. Way better than our standard headlamps of yesterday. I also like that these are rechargeable, and, THESE HAVE INDICATOR LIGHTS TELLING YOU THE CHARGE STATUS. I can’t even say how much I appreciate knowing pretty accurately how much juice I have left, instead of guessing with battery powered lamps. I will definitely only buy rechargeable lamps in the future.
There’s also a function on these where you can wave your hands in front of the light and it turns the light on and off. Not sure what the designer was doing to warrant this function, but it’s extremely irritating. As I was looking through gear at night the light flicked on and off every time I reached for something or my hands crossed the beam. Maybe it’s for walking a trail and then suddenly going dark? Maybe for hunting. Hard to say.

This is very light and comfortable to wear. The brightness options have it all: hi and low power options with wide and narrow views. And the red light saves my night vision around the campsite. Rechargeable, too! I bought another pack of two because I liked them so much. Also, the price is a bargain for these. I don’t use the motion sensor so I cannot comment on that.
