I just recently picked up the Brinyte HC01 Noctua headlamp, not really knowing what to expect but intrigued by the features. The headlamp has this really unique headband retractor device that is super slick. You can adjust with a small key (attached) and also retract the thing all the way down to stow it in a pack or pocket without the band getting damaged or otherwise tangled up. One recommendation I have is adjust it before you put it on your head. It’s easy to get your hair caught in it while adjusting.

The lamp is rechargeable, which is a plus, but also will take triple-A batteries if you need a backup. The charging port is USB-C and the cable is included. Unboxed, the light was fully charged and I’ve been using it for about a month for around the house stuff and haven’t had to charge it yet. Indicator leds on the front let you see the battery charge. I don’t know if they indicate when the triple-A batteries are installed.

Burn time seems to be pretty good for most use. Obviously the “turbo mode” is the shortest time on a full charge, but still more than an hour. I almost never run my lights on the highest mode, but with this light it is bright! The low setting is a little low for my taste, the second higher brightness is preferred and has a burn time of 340 minutes. Changing the light modes is easy, although counter intuitive to me at first. You hold the button down to change brightness, and single press to turn on and off. I guess I’m used to that being the opposite. The light also can lock so if you have it in a bag or in your pocket, you can prevent it from accidentally turning on.

The auxiliary lights are another feature I hadn’t seen on other lamps I’ve used. There is a white and a red LED. They have two brightnesses each, low and high. Low is probably something I wouldn’t use super often, but the red LED is interesting. If you are out looking for wildlife, or on a beach with sea turtles the red LED is necessary. It can also be used to preserve your night vision.

All in all, I am really enjoying the light. I can’t wait to get it out camping once the weather gets nicer. I may use it for running as the strap adjustment allows easy tightening and the fit is comfortable. I also thought the packaging was nice, and recyclable which is a plus.

One last thing, when checking it out for the first time, don’t shine the light in your face before reading the instructions. The light is so bright, and the print is so small on the manual it took awhile before I was able read. 😀

Bought this for a general, around the house headlamp, and for camping. It is really bright and I love that you can USB charge it. I’m sick of my old headlamps getting destroyed by leaky battery acid after sitting between uses. This one is handy, and I like the adjustable headband. Give this little guy a twist to snug it up, and no more headlamp drooping down into your eyes! Its decently lightweight and good for camping, though I won’t be adding it to my ultralight backpacking kit. Great little light to have around!

I use headlamps on a daily basis while doing chores and completing projects around our rural property. I have purchased almost every style and design and constantly search for the best one. No headlamp is perfect but there are a few things I consider. Brigness in relation to weight, durability of the strap and ability to charge quickly.
I was pretty happy with my Olight array. Decent weight, with the battery pack on the rear of the strap and a small light up front. The strap is worthless and won’t stay tight enough to hold the lamp with any typer of physical movement.
The Brynite gets perfect marks for the strap and the retention system is on whole other level. This thing stays put and is easy to adjust via the turnbuckle design. Even easier to spool up completely for easy storage in by bag or glovebox.
Brightness is pretty standard for high powered headlamps that produce 1000 lumens plus. Plenty of light and the ability to easily illuminate objects 50 yards away.
Battery life is strong. Still shows a full charge after an hour of use on high. I always charge it when I am don’t using it. The ability to use primary AAA batteries if needed is convenient.
Operation is pretty basic and functions are easy to switch between.
Overall the strap retention system is probably the best feature of the lamp. It really excels in an area where many fall short. The ability to spool the strap up to store is great. The performance of the light is exceptional in all areas but again, after years of use with many different lamps I am drawn to the strap system as the standout feature.

I am the equipment manager for the Connecticut Cave exploring club and was looking for an inexpensive, but powerful and reliable light for beginner level caving trips and to loan to members. I came across the Brinyte HC01 and it looked like a good option (especially for its sale price of $26 on amazon).I purchased one and since it was not caving season took it out into the woods for a night hike. The main light has a powerful LED and a nice reflector that gives a pretty nice wide beam of light. The “middle” level of 105 lumens is plenty powerful for caving and will last for >3 hours. The high and turbo levels are great for illuminating a large underground room or when climbing up or down a dangerous spot in cave. The auxiliary light gives a very nice diffused light that will be useful in tight crawly sections of cave.

One of the things that really interested me is the Li-Ion battery that comes with these lights. It is designed to be interchangeable with 3 AAA batteries which is very night to have as a backup when caving. This battery @ 1200mA is a nice size ( larger than CR123A batteries @ 700mA and much smaller than 18650 batteries at 3500mA). Its a good size for a beginner level caving trip or as a backup light for a more advanced trip.

The adjustable strap allows the light to fit well onto helmets of different sizes, although my one complaint is the back of the light is plastic so it slides around easy on the plastic helmet. I will add some rubber grip tape to the back of the light to solve this. The light has a water resistance rating of IP66 which is good in drippy or wet conditions in a cave ( but not designed to be dunked under water). This is OK for most beginner level caving trips in my area. although I would prefer IP67 or IP68. I purchased two more of these lights ( for a total of 3) and look forward to using them underground next spring time with the caving club.
