I use this headlight to set up when I go duck hunting. The brightness is the perfect level and I really like the red light option of this headlamp. It is very well made and I also like that it is powered by AAA batteries. Much easier to carry extra batteries around than trying to remember to charge it before you need it.

I have used this headlamp In and around the house, outside at night and while kayaking. The adjustable brightness is helpful. I notice I use the wide-angle LED Most often. It’s quick to get to full brightness by double tapping the side of the unit. While kayaking, hi predominantly used the red light under a full moon and could see well. It is also lightweight, adjustable and comfortable when in use. The learning curve is minimal to learn how to switch within the modes, brightness, etc. The build quality is very good. I had an issue with an older model where the battery compartment broke when I replaced the batteries. I don’t see that happening with this model. The only reason I’m giving at four instead of five stars is that the rechargeable battery pack is additional. I didn’t realize that when I initially ordered it, but it did come with Duracell alkaline batteries.

Bought this model Spot because of the dual peer capability. Also bought the Black Diamond 1500ah battery and charger. So far it works well. No quality issues. Opening and closing battery compartment is a bit more fussy than previous model, but overall lamp is lighter.

I use the light for walking the dog at night. It shines a surprising distance; much better than my cellphone, and I don’t have to hold it.

Works perfectly

Thank you, Black Diamond, for not messing with the formula.
They refining it every year or so, but keep the basics the same. A smart strategy.
I’ve been using the Spot since version 1. I’ve used them for alpine starts on hikes and climbs; nighttime descents from just about everything, every time of year; as my sole light on multiday climbing trips (I never felt the need to bring a backup); and lately, for fixing things around a house where everything needs fixing. This light is as comfortable under a nasty kitchen sink as it is in a snow cave (even if I’m not).
Killer features: Long battery life (if you dim the beam to what you actually need). Flood light, which is perfect for low-fatigue lighting while reading a map or hanging around in a tent. Great compatibility with Eneloop batteries (maybe slightly less bright than with alkalines, but plenty good). Compatibility with non-rechargeable lithium metal AAA batteries, for if you ever need insane battery life, or reliability down to -40°. I haven’t used BD’s new rechargeable custom lithium ion battery, but it looks like a cool option for some uses … like maybe if you bring a solar charger on a long trip. very good water resistance.
My one complaint—on earlier versions, the metal battery contacts were flimsy. We’ll see how the new model does.

Replaced prior small lights that clip on to baseball cap – – And should have done it earlier! The light is very bright and wide. Much safer to walk after dark. Use rechargeable batteries, and recharge about every week to keep the light brightest. FYI I usually use if for 10-15 minutes daily. Button controls are a little confusing, but work OK ultimately.

Lightweight and easy to operate. Quality is very good. I use it in conjunction with my Black Diamond trekking poles.

Often, the best surprise is no surprise.
When I purchased this item, I went for one of the higher-cost options (but not the most costly by any means…). I have been using headlamps for a while and know cheaper options normally work fine for most uses but I wanted one that was really bright as I am currently using it while painting doors and trim with white paint. My assumption was that a marginally higher-cost option would get me a better product, knowing full well that this is often faulty logic. However, in this case I feel that I got exactly what I paid for and expected.
The headlamp itself is just what you want it to be, easy to use (most headlamps are I suppose), solidly-built, etc. Best of all, the light is very bright, to the point where I would caution you to keep it pointed away from people when turning it on (I blasted myself when testing it out).
A high-quality product, purchase with confidence.
