I like that this headlamp remembers your last setting (red, brightest, etc). I am happy with the brightest setting, it lit the way very well when I was in a thick woods at night. The red light is brighter than my last headlamp but red never seems bright enough to see without tripping on roots or other obstacles. Maybe my night vision is abnormally poor, I don’t know.

I can’t comment much as my use is quite focused on an astronomy hobby use, red light during equipment set up. But I like the light weight and non-consumption battery (hence avoiding typical chemical leak) of this headlamp. I am not a believer of brighter lights for the night walk or bicycling. The brightness of this would definitely qualify for me to use those purposes. My other headlamps all went too loose on the headband and I am going to see the result of this band hopefully in years.

Night in the hopes that it would work too see my charts at night in the helicopter cockpit without blinding me.
I bought two different head lamps and I prefer this one for flying. It isn’t so bright that it would reflect off of the wind screen, but illuminates my charts. It also cycles directly to the last mode of you used that mode for more than a few seconds (e.g. goes directly to red without having to pass through several white options).
Battery life on red lasts at least 8 hours (more, I believe).
The plastic hinge is expected to eventually fail like all of my other head lamps, but this one doesn’t swing down too far, so it may still be useable, even when that happens. In fact, I could wish that it would aim down more, if it weren’t for this anticipated failure.

This is what I want in a head lamp for my night wanderings. The unit has memory so that it comes on in red mode. I don’t have to cycle through the other settings. No batteries and recharges easily. It does not try to light up the night as some have done. Just the right amount of light. Have not used it for camping, so cannot speak to its use there, but it came in handy during a recent power outage.

It’s light, it’s comfy, it’s bright and rechargeable. It was a perfect companion for a Northern Lights photo shoot in Alaska. The red light helps to preserve your night vision and isn’t as disturbing for the people aroudn you. The white LED is surprisingly bright and focused. I would feel complelety comfortable hiking in the pitch blackness with this light.

Even fully charged, the red light is very dim. I do not believe it is 500 lumens, more like 100 lumens. It is very light weight and a very good price, though, and I like the rechargeable feature.
