Im a tough critic on products, this product in year 2022 is quality, battery lasts long, made well, not cheap. Light is super bright! And the personal settings are great for low or dim requirements. The charging port is the good type( usb-c) NOT THE CHEAP TYPE( micro-usb)
The head band is comfortable, works great, adjusts easily and is functional.

I’ve been using the older Fenix HP25R for about 3 years which was a great headlight. This improves on so many areas:
– This floodlight goes wider and is just as bright. The lowest flood level is dimmer than lowest on the HP25R and that’s a good thing when you want to be “stealthy”.
– Spotlight is just as bright as Fenix HP25R. It’s pretty insane for its size.
– I never loved the separate battery on the back on HP25R because it was clumsy to carry around and the cable stuck way out to the side. The new unified design is sweet!
– Dial adjuster for the strap is AWESOME! So easy to dial in a snug but comfortable fit. Makes it feel so lightweight.
– USB-C charging. Finally!!! Micro-USB is dead
This HM65R doesn’t have a red light but I don’t actually miss it because the flood can go very dim. Better than the red light IMO.
There are sleeker and lighter headlamps out there by popular brands you might find at a place like REI but those headlamps use alkaline or proprietary Li-ion batteries. I desire flashlights and headlamps that require standard 18650 Li-ion batteries.
Super impressed!

Others mentioned it runs a little
Hot, but apart from that it’s the best head torch I’ve ever owned and probably will own!

Built quality and brightness is good but its highly over priced product
Plus you won’t get additional accessories which described in the product images

The best headlamp i have ever owned, im using it to run and do all kind of work around the house and the land. Easy to operate, stupidly bright light and comfortable to wear 11/10

There’s nothing I can say that hasn’t already been said about this headlamp. Out of the box, it’s got a high-quality feel to it. The brightness is pretty stellar, maybe even more than I’ll need, and the battery indicator light on the top is a really sweet bonus.
I saw some reviews saying this isn’t good for large heads, but that’s not true. I have a giant noggin, and it’s very comfortable. Here’s the trick to adjusting the headband:
Loosen the strap to the largest size possible. Then (maybe the step some people were missing), pull straight up on the black dial, and it’ll click. Then you can pull the wires out of it and it’ll give you even more headroom. Push the dial back in, put the headlamp on, tighten the strap with the sliding plastic piece, and then you can turn the dial to ratchet the tightness as needed.
Great lamp overall, and a great thing to have stashed in your vehicle’s console or glove box for emergencies.

Edited after months of use:
I still use this headlamp several times a week after work for trail running. It has worked flawlessly in any temperature even as low as -15F and rain and snow etc.
My original comment about the metal flap over the buttons was somewhat short-sighted. It is annoying in that you have to tilt it down to access the buttons, but it also protects the buttons against accidentally turning on in my bag.
The one thing I would like to see is the metal part that holds the strap across your forehead likes to slip down over time when running. It looks like a separate piece that could be made of a more flexible plastic with non-slip rubber coating to make it less prone to slipping and maybe a bit more comfortable?
This light will throw more light than you will probably ever need trail running. I ran in the Grand canyon and went rim to rim to rim and that was the only place I was hoping for more so I could see down to the bottom, which is totally unrealistic.
Overall I still think it is a great headlamp and I’ll use it until it dies and probably replace it with the same.
End edit!
I like this headlamp. I bought it for night running and outdoor activities. I find the lowest 5 lumen flood setting to be almost useless for doing anything outdoors. I guess it could be used for reading in a tent or something similar. I’d prefer maybe 20 lumen and less battery life on flood.
I noticed it can be turned on while charging, although only on a low setting. Not sure you’d get a cable in the charging port while wearing it regardless, but it’s possible.
Being able to use both lights at once independently is great, although I don’t think it’s practical as one seems to wash out the other.
The headband is nice, using a cable adjuster is a neat idea for a headlamp, and very convenient. Perhaps if you have thick mittens on you might have to take them off to adjust it, but not a big deal. It does open up for fairly good sized heads, I hope people realize that you have to pull the big button out to unlock the cable and stretch it to it’s full length, then click it back down to be able to tighten it back up.
The metal shroud that extends over the buttons is annoying, you have to ratchet it down a click to use the buttons if you have it completely closed. I suppose I could Dremel it off, save some weight. Maybe it prevents accidental button pushes.
It seems big and bulky from the pictures. It feels bulky in my big hands, but it feels very lightweight. It did not bounce at all on my head. I have top of the line Petzl’s and Black Diamond and it’s at least as comfortable as anything they have. Petzl’s seem to bounce a little bit as their all in one unit is a bit heavier than this. I was worried about the length of the unit across the top, it is pretty wide. I bet they could have shaved a bit off by using thinner battery end caps. Being all metal and not plastic I bet it’s pretty durable.
The graphics on the band are reflective, a nice little touch. The battery LED’s are a nice touch, displaying 4 levels. The band is thin, yet wide and comfortable. I plan to buy another battery or two, you can never have too much light or backup power.
For the price (I paid $99) this is a great investment over cheaper headlamps. I can’t imagine needing more lumens when running or hiking or doing something at night unless you are biking and need more throw ahead of you. Of course it’s always nice to have more light and more battery life, but for the price this is a great unit.
Edited: after looking for another battery, I realize that the Fenix 3500 batteries are about 26 dollars, so you save about 8 dollars by buying the one that comes with 2 batteries.

Don’t even think twice. Buy this light! Super bright. Long burn time on high lumen level. It NEVER steps down. The battery drains eventually after 2.5 hours on high or so, but you just carry a spare. Light and SOLID! And comfortable. Everything positive that anyone has said about this light……double it from me.

I wish I would have found this headlamp before buying so many others! It’s very comfortable and light for the power it puts out. Sometime I forget that I even have it on. The battery life is excellent and I like the fact that you can charge it “USB C” without having to remove the battery.
One strange thing is that when I attempted to change the battery out with another Fenix battery or other 18650 battery the light would not work. Now I just make sure to charge it after each use. The only other gripe is that there is no way to completely remove the headband to wash it separately from the light. As such I’m left washing the band by hand.
Overall it’s an awesome headlamp! Plenty of beam adjustment options and lights up everything in front of you. The light does not bleed down into your eyes and it’s very adjustable based on your head angles. I mainly use this for work when I need my hands free and plenty of light. I imagine this would also fit perfectly over a hardhat as well.

very pleased with this, bright and last a very long time, have never worn the battery down and always use it at least on medium or higher
was worried about the weight but the band seems to mitigate it and it is not bothering me with hours of use
