HR is a joke! The HR monitor is the only reason I bought it. I don’t like having to charge fitness trackers all the time and only care about my HR during workouts and this thing is awful!!! Do not buy if you want a more reliable HR sensor.
Edit:
I’ve messed with the watch trying a million different ways to check HR. Found the manual on the internet and it has tips for taking the heart rate. One tip said make sure the wrist and finger aren’t dry. So I dampened my wrist and finger and it works better and quicker. Still complicated because I’m not always around water and really don’t want to be licking my finger to take my HR (yuck germs). The watch is pretty and does all the other Ironman functions I’ve always loved about timex ironmans. The added step count is pretty cool, but I just use that as a reference because no pedometer is completely accurate. So I bumped the stars up to 3. Like I said having to make sure the wrist and finger are damp is not the most convenient thing. It’s ok, if you don’t care about having HR. I’m keeping it, but it won’t be my first choice to workout with.

The watch has quite a unique feature of a step counter among LCD digital watches. I know this feature exists on many smart watches, but that comes with a need to charge it every day, while this one is powered by a single button CR2032 battery that needs a replacement once a year or even a couple of years.
That was the reason why we wanted it and no other brand provides such a feature in the line of lady’s watches besides Timex.

I wanted a gadget that could measure my heart rate when I exercise, but I did not want one of those fancy things that needs to be paired with a cell phone, has a hundred extra features, and is difficult to learn to use. This one does what I wanted. Took a few minutes to set up (I found a tutorial on YouTube) and that was it! It shows the time and date, and if you press and hold a button it shows heart rate. (I think it can also count steps but I haven’t used that feature yet.)

The experience with this watch was one of the worst I’ve had. My wife liked this watch, so I got it as a present for Christmas. It arrived in a box that was pretty beat up and looked like it had been around a while; however, the watch itself looked fine. She opened it on Christmas and loved it. When we went to set the watch, we got about halfway through the process when it went black and we were unable to do anything further.
I requested a replacement from Amazon. To their credit, they sent one within just a couple of days. Unfortunately, the box (the timex factory box….not the Amazon shipping box) with the second watch looked just like the box of the first watch. Old and beat up. We tried to set the second watch and the same thing happened….the screen blacked out.
I’m not sure if these watches are just old and have been in a warehouse somewhere for years and had dead batteries, or if this model has some circuitry issues, but this was a really bad experience. I’ve had numerous Timex Ironman watches myself and have never had a problem. Not sure what the issue was, but it happened twice within a week.
I ended up just returning it for a refund and we went with a different brand watch. Stay away from this one!

The gold around the rim started chipping almost immediately. The heart rate function was difficult to use vs a smart watch. It was hard to set in general. Randomly kicked the bucket today after owning for 10 months. Battery still works but can’t set the time. The band held up nice probably the best part of the whole product

As I’ve said before, this is a great watch for the price. I like it because it is smaller than my last one. The tan lines aren’t so noticeable. The timing is accurate, and it has everything I wanted in the watch and nothing I didn’t want.

I bought this watch specifically because I wanted a wearable step counter without the extras of a smart watch (so no bluetooth, wifi, or apps). It’s just above a basic digital watch, which is perfect for my needs. I did have to Google set up instructions to change the date & time as well as inputting some basic height and weight data. I’m sure it’s used to more accurately estimate calories burned (which is also displayable). As compared to my phone’s set tracker, the numbers are close enough. Since I don’t always have my phone on me, the watch does have a higher step count for today by about 800. Overall, it’s exactly what I wanted.
-Update-
So I’ve had this watch for just over a month (9/11 to 10/21) and I’m dropping my review from 5 to 4 stars. It still counts steps and keeps track of time which are the two major functions I wanted. But unfortunately the back light function broke. In complete darkness, when I press the button to light it, you can see a small blue light in the corner, but the screen remains dark. So you can’t read the time when it’s dark. All other functions seem to work. I’ve worn this watch daily since I got it and have done nothing extreme that could have cause damage. I expected a Timex watch to hold up better.

Ridiculous! No instructions included, just warranty information. The warranty says “For operating instruction, see Timex.com.” Why? Went to the website. Couldn’t find the manual because of a pop-up about a discount. I googled the watch to find instructions. Only instructions I found were jumbled up and unreadable. I’ll try again later from a different device. This watch is probably going back to seller!

Arrived with a snap that had been cut clear off. Total hassle to have to return
